The reception space needed to balance visual impact, durability, and day-to-day functionality, while aligning with the building’s contemporary architectural language.

Modern Line was commissioned to design, manufacture, and install a bespoke reception area at Maple Place, with the aim of creating a welcoming yet refined first impression. The reception space needed to balance visual impact, durability, and day-to-day functionality, while aligning with the building’s contemporary architectural language.

Design Intent

The reception area serves as the focal point of the interior, setting the tone for the entire building. Our approach focused on natural materials, clean lines, and precision detailing, ensuring the space felt both premium and inviting.

A restrained palette was selected to allow the craftsmanship and material quality to take centre stage, with particular emphasis on walnut veneer, natural stone, and architectural detailing.

Bespoke Reception Desk & Feature Joinery

At the heart of the space is a custom-built reception desk, finished in walnut veneer. The veneer was carefully selected and book-matched to achieve a consistent grain flow, reinforcing the sense of quality and attention to detail.

Integrated vertical walnut slats were incorporated into the design, adding rhythm and depth while subtly breaking up the mass of the joinery. These slats not only enhance the visual appeal but also introduce a tactile element that draws visitors into the space.

The desk is topped with marble worktops, chosen for their elegance and durability. The natural veining of the marble adds character and contrast against the warmth of the walnut, elevating the overall aesthetic without overpowering it.

Valchromat Pigeon Hole Unit

To the rear of the reception desk, we installed a bespoke Valchromat pigeon hole unit. Finished in a complementary tone, this element provides practical storage while maintaining the clean, architectural feel of the reception area.

Valchromat was selected for its durability, colour-through consistency, and crisp machining properties, allowing for sharp edges and a precise finish. The pigeon hole layout was carefully considered to meet operational requirements without compromising the visual simplicity of the space.

Craftsmanship & Installation

All elements were manufactured in-house by Modern Line, allowing full control over quality, tolerances, and finishes. Given the prominence of the reception area, particular care was taken during installation to ensure seamless joints, perfect alignment, and flawless detailing.

The integration of multiple materials — walnut veneer, marble, and Valchromat — required careful coordination and sequencing, resulting in a cohesive, well-resolved final installation.

Outcome

The completed reception area at Maple Place delivers a calm, confident first impression, combining warmth, sophistication, and practicality. The bespoke joinery not only enhances the architectural character of the building but also provides a functional, durable workspace tailored to the client’s needs.
